New Work Path: new goals, new outlook, new energy

Today, at my request, I was officially approved to leave the team I worked with for more than 4 years and move into a more work-and-tech dynamic team. On one hand, I was a bit sad to leave the room where me and all my absolutely awesome co-workers battled it out for so long. Not even the worst and unfit of micro-managers I've ever crossed paths with was able to destroy the team unity we had. Heck some of us roomed together when we were first denied funding to attend Google I/O 2011 (a mistake they were quick to fix, fortunately). In short, it's a team of great and talented developers, some of which I've learned a ton from and it'll be a little hard at first not being in the same room with them (though we still are in the same building, so it's not too bad).

On the other hand, I really needed to move on to something different, less predictable, with flatter management structure and more dynamic. Fortunately our VP of operations was very understanding of my needs and my gripes. Without her instrumental behind-the-scenes work help, I don't think this transition would've been as quick and decisive as it was, so I owe her many thanks. In this new role, I have very clear short term goals, as well as very good perspective for future work (though, as I said, it's a bit unpredictable). This has emotionally and physically invigorated me quite a bit. I feel very driven and purposeful. I feel my work counts and if I slack off and fail, I'm the only one to blame. This new team I'm moving into it's giving me the opportunities, goals and the tools to accomplish them and in my opinion that's all I can ask for from my employer.

So, I'm energized, driven and lock and loaded, so to speak, and I'm truly looking forward to the tough challenges ahead.
